Inside Tiff's Mind
Hello All! As I mentioned previously, this space on TiffWrites.com is reserved for the thoughts floating around my head. It's not simply a blog, or a journal, or a place to publish articles and talk about the things I'm working on. In fact, it's all those things. I'm sure as I grow in this space as a solo entrepreneur, so too will the contents of this page and website. Until then, check out my latest article, published on LinkedIn.

Content Creators as Content Creators
Content creation defined
Content creation is defined by the popular marketing blog at Hubspot.com as the “process of generating topic ideas that appeal to your buyer persona, creating written or visual content around those ideas, and making that information accessible to your audience as a blog, video, infographic, or other content format.” And the creator behind the content is, well, in the name. However, until relatively recently, those working outside of editorial production or within Publishing or Communications teams for example, may not have considered themselves content creators.

I’ve always considered myself a content producer, coming from a journalist background and having spent my 20-year career working in the editorial realm. While I may have referred to what I produce as “traditional” content once upon a time, this piece of writing, which I am self-publishing via an online social media platform, is a far cry from the articles I penned for print in my high school and college newspapers — not to mention for the publications or communications of previous employers.
Today, organizations and individuals appear to understand that everything we produce is in fact content. Many companies have employed chief content officers for several years now, and consistently hire people like me to manage everything from content creation (yes, even generative AI-produced content) to building connections (i.e. strategy) between their “content producing” staff.

What’s content and who’s producing (and managing) it?
Your organization produces a magazine, that’s clearly content. That video of an influential member or industry influencer posted on your organization’s website? Content on content. Easy enough. But would you have defined the educational offerings or the conferences you put on as content – or the staff in charge of them as content creators?
